In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the independence of Mauritius and Happy Chinese New Year Esplanade Parade

1.    Theme of parade

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the independence of Mauritius and the Chinese New Year and at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and of the Ministry of Arts and Culture in Mauritius, the Chinese Embassy and the China Cultural Center are collaborating with the Municipality of Port-Louis, the Ministry of Arts and Culture, all of Chinese associations in Mauritius, Chinese-funded companies and cultural institutions to organize an unprecedented Chinese Spring Festival parade of momentous significance.

2.       Venue of parade

The tentative suggested route is as following:

Champ de Mars – Municipality of Port-Louis – Parliament House – Chinatown.

The parade will stop for about 20-30 minutes in front of the Municipality of Port-Louis and the Hotel du Gouvernement for dragon dance, martial arts show, amongst many other performances. Finally, the procession will assemble at the memorial archway of Chinatown, whereby an open-air celebratory show will take place.

The Parade will start at 15:00.

3.       Content of parade

The Chinese Embassy would like to mobilize all of Chinese associations and Chinese-funded companies to form a parade matrix which will include the float parade (planning to set up 5-10 vehicles), lion and dragon dance performances, dances, martial arts items and many others. At the same time, the Embassy will also invite an arts troupe from China to participate in the parade with stilts, mascots, drums and face-changing performances, amongst many other traditional New Year contents.

The Municipality would organize local cultural organizations, primary and secondary schools to join in the parade, in the aim of celebrating the Independent Day and the Chinese New Year together.
