Colors To Sino-Mauritian Friendship

Objective
of the event
The
competition is hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Mauritius and is co-organized
by the China Cultural Center and the Mauritius Chinese Fine Arts Association, with
the collaboration of the Mahatma Gandhi Institute, the Confucius Institute at
University of Mauritius, the National Art Gallery of Mauritius and the
International Watercolor Society. The aim of the competition is to encourage
Mauritians to know more about China, to further promote cultural exchanges
between China and Mauritius, to deepen the friendship between the two
countries, and at the same time, to scout for Mauritian painters, therefore establishing
a good platform for painting enthusiasts to display their talents and for
mutual learning and exchanges.
3.
Rules
of competition
The
competition consists of four categories: Western painting- Experienced Artist,
Western Painting- General Public, Traditional Chinese painting and Children. Western Painting category covers
watercolor, pastel, gouache, oil painting, acrylic painting and mixed media on
canvas. Chinese painting category comprises 'gongbi' style painting (fine
brushwork) and 'xieyi' style painting (freehand style). Children category has
no restriction on painting type.
The
rules are as follows:
(1) For
Western painting- Experienced Artist
category, participants will submit an original Western painting with dimensions not exceeding 2m*1m, within the
deadline (see ‘Method of Registration’).
(2) For
Western painting- General Public category, participants will submit an original
Western painting with dimensions not
exceeding 2m*1m, within the deadline (see ‘Method of Registration’).
(3) For
Traditional Chinese painting category, participants will submit an original
traditional Chinese painting with dimensions not exceeding 50cms*90cms, within the deadline (see ‘Method of
Registration’).
(4) For the
Children category, participants should be under
14 years old and should submit an original painting (no restriction on painting
type) on an A3 size paper within the
deadline (see ‘Method of Registration’).
Note:
(1) Each
contestant may participate in more than one category but can only submit one
painting per category and cannot use the same painting more than once.
(2) Participants
under 14 years of age can choose to participate in any category; non- experienced
painters can choose to participate in either Western painting for Experienced
Artist category or Western painting for General Public category whilst experienced
painters cannot participate in Western painting in General Public category.
(3) The
jury panel will assess the contestants’ paintings according to their respective
categories and will make final decisions for the competition correspondingly.
(4) The
decisions of the jury are final.
4.
Method
of registration
Participants
from Western painting –Experienced
Artist, Western painting – General Public and Children categories need to
fill in the registration form ( can be downloaded from the Facebook page of the
China Cultural Center :le
Centre culturel chinois à Maurice) and submit electronically,
together with a picture of their painting to the following email address: paintingcompetition2019@gmail.com before 4th August 2019. No
submission will be accepted outside the state time period. The list of selected
paintings will be officially published on 12th August on the Facebook page of
the China Cultural Center. All qualified works shall be framed and shall be
deposited at the China Cultural Center, between 18:30hrs to 20:00hrs, as from
19th to 21st August, for final selection by the jury and for display at the
exhibition.
Participants
from the Traditional Chinese painting
category need to fill in the registration form which can be downloaded from
the Facebook page of the China Cultural Center :le
Centre culturel chinois à Maurice and submit together with their
original painting already framed to the China Cultural Center, between 18:30hrs to 20:00hrs from 21st
to 23rd August 2019.

1st
Prize: 1 winner; prize of a round-trip air ticket Mauritius
- China + visits.
2nd
Prize: 3 winners; prize money of Rs10,000 per
person.
3rd
Prize: 5 winners; prize money of Rs5,000 per person.
Outstanding
Prizes:
15 winners; prize money of Rs2,000 per person.
Western Painting- General Public
Category:
1st
Prize: 1 winner; prize money of Rs10,000
2nd
Prize: 3 winners; prize money of Rs5,000 per person.
3rd
Prize: 5 winners; prize money of Rs2,500 per person.
Outstanding
Prizes:
15 winners; prize money of Rs1,000 per person.
Traditional Chinese Painting Category:
1st
Prize: 1 winner; prize of a round-trip air ticket Mauritius
- China + visits.
2nd
Prize: 3 winners; prize money of Rs10,000 per
person.
3rd
Prize: 5 winners; prize money of Rs5,000 per person.
Outstanding
Prizes:
15 winners; prize money of Rs2,000 per person.
Children category:
Excellence
Award:
30 winners; each person gets a children's gift pack.
Best
Creativity Award: 3 winners; each person gets a children's gift pack +
other prizes.
Best
Technique Award: each person gets a children's gift pack + other
prizes.
6.
Additional
remarks
(1) The participants
agree that their works will be displayed during the prize-giving ceremony,
prize- winners’ paintings exhibition and other non-commercial events such as
National Day’s Reception etc.
(2) The
participants agree that their works shall be reproduced into a photo album
entitled “Adding Color To Sino-Mauritian Friendship”, which will be printed and
displayed for non-commercial purposes.
(3) 1st and 2nd prize
winners
of Western Painting- Experienced Artist
Category and Traditional Chinese Painting Category will describe their
painting during the prize-giving ceremony and participate in a live painting.
(4) The
China Cultural Center reserves all the rights to interpret and amend the rules
of the competition at its discretion.
